College basketball season is upon us again (as is the NBA, but no one gives a shit about the NBA) and Winthrop University is off to a decent start. In a tournament in St. Thomas, Winthrop defeated Illinois-Chicago, then Georgia Tech. They eventually lost to Baylor in the Championship game.
I was hoping that Winthrop would end up playing either Notre Dame or Wichita State in the championship. Winthrop handily defeated Notre Dame in this year's NCAA tournament. Former Winthrop coach Gregg Marshall left after 9 seasons and took over the Wichita State program. Unfortunately, both teams lost before Winthrop could beat up on them.
If you look at this week's rankings, you will see that Winthrop received 5 votes to be ranked, 2 more points than Maryland. Ha-ha!
